Hendrik Louw Primary School takes pride in providing four Grade RR and five Grade R classes within the premises of our main school building. Our young learners, known as 'Little Louwtjies,' have their own dedicated playgrounds and bathrooms.
Our little Louwtjies have their own T-shirt that is worn on Fridays and during outings, unless we have a "fancy dress", which happens quite often! These include, among others, the popular Grandma and Grandpa Day, Pyjama Day (Winter), Easter Treasure Hunt, Braaidag (Heritage Day) and other festive days.
GRADE RR
In this grade, Hendrik Louw welcomes our brand new learners to the school. The focus is on learning through play. We combine various educational principles to prepare our learners for formal learning and acquiring the necessary skills to experience success in gr R and the Foundation Phase.
In addition, we create a safe, positive and happy environment where learners feel comfortable and can develop to their full potential in order to build a strong self-esteem. The environment is well structured and stimulating so that children can discover, learn and play. This contributes to children feeling safe to discover and live out their own interests, personality and needs.
CODING AND GROSS-MOTOR DEVELOPMENT
Our Grade RR and Grade R classes attend Robotics classes weekly, where they acquire fundamental knowledge about coding in a playful manner. These sessions combine Lego and technology, preparing young minds for the future.
Monkeynastix also visits our Grade RR and R classes on a weekly basis to help with their gross motor development.
The learners of Hendrik Louw are in the privileged position that both these classes are included in their school fees.
GRADE R - PREPARATION TO INTEGRATE
At Hendrik Louw's Grade R department, an excellent foundation is built for their school career. A love for learning and knowledge is cultivated in the learners. We aim to create an opportunity to learn, in every aspect of the day programme. Learners can socialise, be creative, discover and have fun in a comfortable, safe and loving atmosphere. A learner who is stimulated is a happy learner!
Our Grade R learners are looked after by a carefully selected group of staff, who are passionate about our school and our curriculum. This also means that our Grade R learners are ready to start their school career without any difficulty in one of the best primary schools in the Helderberg.
The year ends with our annual diploma ceremony and concert for our Grade R learners - a touching and emotional highlight for our parents.
VISITS FROM SERVICE PROVIDERS AND OUTINGS
There are a variety of institutions that are visited by our Little Louwtjies and demonstrations that are done at the school, for example:
- How to bathe and care for a pet
- Making and baking in the kitchen
- How to take care of your teeth
- Visit from the fire brigade
- Dog or reptile show
Furthermore, Grade R learners are taken on trips that are within walking distance of the school. For example: ABSA, a pet shop, Pick 'n Pay and a fun day on the beach.
THERAPISTS
Hendrik Louw Primary School also offers all learners the support of our speech and occupational therapists during school hours in our own centre.
